Wish I were on old Rocky Top down in the Tennessee Hills! Yes, that's part of the chorus of the infectious song repeatedly played by the University of Tennessee Band. I have to admit I sing along every time I hear it. Something about that song gets me moving. My dog's name is Summitt for crying out loud! I can remember in college at UF, I would beg my sister to go with me and see the Tennessee women's basketball team play UF. She happily obliged. UF usually got demolished but it was all to just see the legend Pat Summitt.
Last night, the Lady Vols won their 8th National Championship. The thought is purely mind boggling and Pat Summitt is purely a genious. I love watching them play, more importantly I love watching them dominate the rest of the field. Yes, it's true year after year their talent is astonishing and they always have a tremendous incoming class. This leads me to wonder, do these incoming freshman want to play for Tennessee for they see it as a dynasty or do they want to play for Pat Summitt? Or is it a combination of both?
Now my basketball skills were never the best, although I did play basketball in highschool. I was never the quickest girl nor the most talented on the team, but I have to admit that it would have been neat to play for Tennessee. It would be neat to say that you had the experience to play for one of the all time winnest coaches or one of college's greatest motivator/enforcer. Unfortunately, I have used all of my eligibility up and am no longer able to entertain dreams of playing for Tennessee.
So I say, CONGRATS to the Lady Vols!
